A Telluride winter is something special, and there is no doubt about that. But once you’ve booked your Telluride vacation, you might be wondering where you should start. We at the Peaks Resort and Spa have gone ahead and compiled a list of the ten best things to do in Telluride every winter.
10 Best Telluride Winter Activities
Even if you can only find the time to do one of these things, we know that you will enjoy yourself. Hopefully, you find time to return and try even more of these special winter activities.
- If it’s a little too chilly for you, stay inside and enjoy our spa and pool area. Ride the water slide, too, while you are there.
- Sunsets in the mountains are a uniquely beautiful experience. We suggest you watch the sunset from our resort restaurant, Altezza.
- If you are new to the area or skiing, you should look into skiing downhill with a private guide. This way, you can learn about the area and worry less about getting lost or falling.
- If skiing is too fast-paced for you, we still want you to see the winter scenery in Telluride. Look into some of the phenomenal hiking trails near the resort. A great place to start is the Jurassic Trail.
- After a day spent either skiing or winter hiking, you should take a moment to slow down. One of the best ways to recharge and relax is by getting dinner at Alpino Vino.
- However, if you’ve been skiing before, you ought to try heli-skiing. It’s the best way to get to places hard to reach on foot, and it will provide an experience you will want to brag about once you return to the resort.
- Feeling brave? Try your hand at ice/rock climbing. A few places near Telluride offer ice climbing adventures, such as Mountain Trips or San Juan Outdoor Adventures.
- Anglers lodging with us is in luck. There are some lively fishing spots for winter fly fishing nearby. Look into fishing on the San Miguel and Gunnison Rivers. Telluride Outside can help you get started.
- Children love sledding, and you’ll love it too when you see the fresh white snow and the variety of hills to sled down. Head over to Firecracker Hill if you don’t know where to start. Bring your sled or rent one at the Nordic Center.
