The Peaks Resort & Spa Diary

A winter trip to Telluride begins with choosing the right airport. Two options serve the destination: Telluride Regional Airport (TEX), close to Mountain Village, and Montrose Regional Airport (MTJ), which offers a wider range of nonstop routes.

For guests staying at The Peaks Resort & Spa, the best choice depends on your departure city, travel dates and preferred transfer. A convenient flight into Montrose may suit one itinerary, while a connection into Telluride may work better for another.

Use this guide to compare airports, explore the winter 2026/27 flight map and plan the final part of your journey to The Peaks in Mountain Village.

Which airport should you fly into?

Telluride Regional Airport (TEX)

TEX is the closest airport option for a stay in Mountain Village. Its location makes it appealing when a shorter drive after landing is a priority. The winter route map includes service from Denver and Phoenix operated by Denver Air Connection.

Compare the full journey, including any connection, rather than airport distance alone. Service dates and operating days vary by route.

Montrose Regional Airport (MTJ)

MTJ offers more nonstop departure points for winter visitors. It is useful to compare Montrose when your home airport appears on the seasonal route map or when its flight times better fit your plans.

Montrose requires a longer ground transfer to Mountain Village. Arrange your onward journey before arrival and ask your transport provider how much time to allow for your dates and winter conditions.

Winter 2026/27 flight map

The seasonal map shows nonstop routes into both Telluride and Montrose. Use it to identify a starting point for your trip, then check the airline’s schedule for your exact departure and return dates.

Some services operate throughout the year. Others run only during selected winter periods, and a route shown on the map may not operate every day.

Do you need a rental car in Telluride?

telluride gondola

A rental car is not essential for every winter itinerary. If your plans center on Mountain Village and Telluride, an airport transfer and local transportation may suit your stay. The free gondola connects the two communities during its operating seasons.

Check the gondola’s current schedule before making plans, particularly near the start or end of the season. It does not provide transportation from either airport.

If you plan to explore farther afield, compare the convenience of a rental car with your comfort driving in winter conditions. Ask the resort about current parking arrangements and charges before you reserve a vehicle.
